Zachariah Valentino, better known as "Zach", wa a survivor of Test Run 8 and the founder and leader of STAR. Formerly a junior in Montpelier, Vermont's John T. Killian High School, Zach was abducted with his class from a school trip and thrown into the game, where he was labelled B08. Most of his friends from school died over the next five days, but Zach rallied a group of students from all four involved schools and turned them into a proper escape movement which was able to fight their way off the island.
Years later, Zach had a strong tendency to dwell on the events of the test run and the past in general, often questioning if his survival was worth it. While nominally the leader of STAR's Assault Squad, he did not directly participate in the assault on the Arthro Taskforce's headquarters or the rescue of Bayview's students in version four, leaving the former task to Corey Maslakow and the latter to Jaxon Jeremiah and Nathan Caudle. However, he was still active commander of the organisation as a whole. Although STAR was unable to intervene in version five, they were aware of the abduction of students from Cochise High School and attempted a rescue. However, this was a trap, and while most of STAR was ambushed on the decoy island, Big Four member Steven Wilson personally led an assault on STAR headquarters. Zach tried to fight his way out, but was intercepted, and ended up being killed by Wilson himself.
